Signs You May Need to Replace Your Windows

When Should You Replace Your Home’s Windows? Here are the Tell-Tale Signs

Windows are one of the most essential parts of any home’s exterior, and they also play an important role in home comfort and energy efficiency. Fortunately, there are some tell-tale signs that will let you know if it’s time to start shopping around for new windows.

Signs You May Need to Replace Your Windows

Here are some tell-tale signs that it may be time to get new windows installed in your home.

Hail Damage

If you see any hail damage on your windows, it may be time to think about replacing them. The size and severity of the hail will determine how much damage is done to your windows. Smaller hailstones can actually cause more damage because they tend to produce more shattered glass than a large, single stone. If you have more than one window that’s been damaged by hail, it may be time for an entire replacement.

Hinges Worn Out

If you have windows in your house and you’re starting to notice that they don’t open or close as smoothly as they used to, this may be a sign that it’s time for new window hinges. If your hinges have started to wear out, then there is a good chance that other parts of your window will also soon need replacement.

Cracking Glass and Frames

If you notice your glass or frame is cracked, it may be time to replace your window. The cracks could lead to more serious problems down the line, like corrosion and mold growth on your windowsill. Cracks in the frame can also lead to drafts coming through, making your home less energy efficient.

Condensation Inside Window Frames

This is a sure sign that your windows need to be replaced. The condensation is caused by humid air that has been trapped inside the frame, and it needs to be replaced before mold starts to form. If you see any signs of water staining on the glass or dark spots inside or outside of the window, this may be an indication that moisture has built up in the sealant around the window and there may be moisture build up in the wood frames. Additionally, if your window tracks fall out easily when you move them, this may also indicate problems with water damage from within or without.
